Balgrad Medieval Days – medieval art festival, 8th ed.
The 8th edition of this small medieval art festival was the first edition that was co-financed grace to LOCUS project. The Organizer – Skepsis Group NGO received also the support of several local partners: Alba Iulia Municipality; National Museum of Unification Alba Iulia; Students Cultural
House Alba Iulia; Inter Art Foundation Aiud.
The event was organized on 04.08.2023-06.08.2023 and included 62 artists, 9 groups and companies and independent artists from several cities of Romania. The program of the event offered 3 days of medieval art interactive workshops, performances and shows (theatre; music; dance; medieval weapons and swords presentations and fight demonstrations; puppet theatre shows). All shows were outdoor performances organized in the historical center of Alba Iulia “Carolina” Citadell, with free access for everyone.
The program offered 16 performances and 7 interactive workshops :
-Truverii (Bucharest) – medieval and traditional music band, offered a medieval music concert and
medieval dance workshops for the public.
-Studio24 (Bucharest) – theatre group, offered a performance of medieval farces.
-Terra Ultrasilvana (Brasov) – historical re-enacctment group, offerd several interactive
workshops, presentations and demonstrations of handeling medieval swords and weapons.
– Cr3ativi (Iasi) – theatre company, offered a theatre show based on the myth of Tristan and Isolda.
– Nosa (Bistrita) – medieval dance company, offered two medieval dances shows and a series of
dance demonstrations involving the public.
– Cimpoierii din Transilvania (Bistrita) – piper music group, offerd a piper music concert on the
oppening evening of the festival.
– Sirius (Bistrita) – fire juggling company, offerd a fire show on the last evening of the festival,
marking the closing ceremony of the event.
– Tudor Ostafie (Iasi) – a young actor specialized in puppet theatre offerd several interactive
puppet workshops for the public, targetting the involvement of children.
– Andreea Adam (Alba Iulia) – a young local artist from Alba Iulia, offerd a series of interactive
medieval book sign handcraft workshops for the public.
– Beatrice Kalman – a young local artist from Alba Iulia, offerd a venetian masks handcraft
workshop for the public.
– Catalina Mihaila (Targul Mures) – Actress and university teacher at Tg Mures Art University,
offerd a poetry performance for the public.
– Skepsis (Alba Iulia) – theatre group from Alba Iulia, representing the organizer, offerd two medieval theatre performancces for the public.
